Meet Joe Hubley

Joe understands that being a Selectman is one of the toughest jobs in town. Serving Southborough in a leadership role requires dedication and commitment, and Joe is no stranger to either.

He learned the meaning of service from his parents, Nita and George Hubley Sr., who were lifelong residents of Southborough, George was a WWII veteran, firefighter, and member of several committees. George also served as the Veterans Grave Officer until his death in 1996. Each year on Memorial Day, Joe came to hear his father speak in honor of our veterans, and he knew, even as a child, that he wanted to follow in his father’s path of service to his community.

Joe turned this sentiment into action and joined the Southborough Fire Department in 1978 as a call firefighter. He earned a full-time position in 1985 and was promoted to Captain in 2002. As a Firefighter/EMT, Joe made difficult decisions under adverse conditions in service to the town he loves. His strong leadership qualities were recognized when he became President of the Southborough Firefighters, a position he held for many years. Joe was selected by the governor in 2015 as a State Appointee to the Southborough Housing Authority.

The Town of Southborough has benefited from Joe’s responsive leadership style and commitment to the community

  • Historical Commission Member (2006); elected Chairman in 2013
  • Historical Representative to Community Preservation Committee
  • Town’s 275th Birthday Celebration Committee

In 2015, Joe retired from the Fire Department and began a new chapter in his career as Senior Staff Representative at the Department of Labor Relations/Joint Labor Management Committee. In this role, Joe conducts investigations,  mediation and dispute resolution while resolving collective bargaining disputes between municipalities and their firefighters and police officers. This role showcases Joe’s strengths: strong leadership and a gift for getting to the heart of an issue and finding a solution.

Joe enjoys spending time at their farm with his wife, Andrea, his three daughters; Cassandra, Jillian and Siena, and their three horses and farm dog, Jack.  He is also an avid sportsman.
